Document Required:
Copy of passport and OBL or AWB. Tax exemption must be requested to the Ministry of Foreign Relations. Embassy or mission must endorse exemption. This paper work takes 3 weeks.

Customs Regulations:
Pays no duties new or used.

Clearance:
3 working days once the exemption is approved.

Although shipment will not be inspected by customs according to the Vienna Convention.

For electronic and electric appliances, customs requiere: brand (make), and serial number.

Customs Regulations:
Average tax is 34%.

Clearance:
5 working days, (Customer presence is not required).

Remarks:
All household goods and personal effects must be unloaded in bonded warehouse for customs inspection (effective October 06 1993).

All Costaricans that have lived overseas for more than two years are allowed to import all their used household goods and personal effects with lower duties.

Big appliances must not exceed one of each item. Customer must submit a letter from the nearest Costarican Consulate abroad, stating that he has lived more than two years abroad.This partial tax exemption approval takes four weeks to be approved in Costa Rica.

No limit on quantity.

Clearance:
5 working days.

Remarks:
Taxes are on the average of 32%.

Document Required:
Pets required health vaccination certificates dated less than 30 days prior to arrival in Costa Rica.

Clearance:
24 Hours.

Documents Required:
For clearance original title and OBL or AWB, original invoice is needed if vehicle is new.

Customs Regulations:
Automobiles and Pick Up trucks:

• New and up to 3 years old pay 52.29% duties and taxes.
• 4 and 5 years old pay 63.91% duties and taxes.
• More than 5 years old pay 79.03% duties and taxes.
• Boats 55.71%
• Motorcycles between 35% and 60%.

Clearance:
5 working days.

Remarks:
In order to register the car and obtain the license plates it takes 8 additional working days.

Tourist are allowed to import a vehicle duty free for a period of six months, documents required same as state above plus registration of vehicle in the name of the person bringing the automobile to Costa Rica.

Export packing services include:
Presurvey, complete origin service with supply of packing materials and labor at residence, export and customs documentation, and delivery to pier or air terminal.
